Windy Hill Farm

(Claremore,OK)

We are a small farm raising mostly heritage breeds. Our small flock of Navajo-Churro sheep provide us with both wool for spinning and lambs for meat. Each year we have a few extra butcher lambs to offer for sale to customers. We provide whole, or a half- lamb, or lamb by the cut. We are not certified organic, but we do not use hormones or antibiotics in our flock. Our lambs receive grain only as a treat to bring them to the barn at night for safety. We usually butcher in the fall and it's a good idea to reserve your lamb in advance. We're just a small farm, you see, and our numbers are limited. Each sping at shearing time, we have between 15 and 20 prime Churro fleeces available to sell to handspinners. We sell everything from the raw fleece to finished spun yarn and our colors range from white, thru several shade of brown, to a lovely antique black and pure black. Our mixed flock of chickens is predominently the heritage breed, Dominiques, but you'll also see a few feather-footed Cochins strutting about, and perhaps a couple of mop-headed Polish, and some brilliant-feathered Americaunas. We like a bit of variety. And you'll see that in our eggs. From light green to dark, rosy brown, they're always fresh and still just $2 a dozen. You're welcome to stop by just about anytime. We almost always have eggs, tho' in mid-winter it might be best to call and check. We don't put lights on our girls; we think everybody deserves a little rest in the winter months. We've just gotten Royal Palm Turkeys and we hope they do well for us. If so, we might be able to offer a few Thanksgiving turkeys by 2008. Drop by and see us, but be patient. We're always a work in progress. You might have to wait a few minutes if Dolly, the big Belgian workhorse and I are down the field pulling logs, or dragging the pasture, but we'll get to the gate eventually!
