Scotch Hill Farm
(Brodhead,WI)We offer 20 weeks of fresh vegetables and herbs, which we raise on our farm and rented ground. We also maintain small flocks of goats, sheep and poultry, with a number of varieties of rare breed livestock and chickens. We have very limited quantities of eggs available for our CSA members, but we connect our members to certified organic eggs from another small farm in Mount Horeb, Wis. We have been members of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy and several dairy goat associations. We deliver vegetables, June through October, to Madison, Janesville and Chicago area neighborhoods and communities (wherever 20 or more households subscribe to receive our produce). We received our organic certification during summer 2009. We are 11-year members of the state-line Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) and serve on their steering committee. We have taken on interns from 5 to 30 weeks during 8 past growing seasons. We've also been part of the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition since 1994, and Dela has been a board of directors member for 3 years. We have made goat milk soap on our farm from our own milk, vegetable oils and other natural ingredients for 12 years, and we sell this soap by mail order and in summer and winter farmers markets. We raise produce now all winter in two high tunnel greenhouses. We also offer a November subscription that combines hoop house greens with fall root crops. Weekly newsletters from past growing seasons list all of the vegetables we delivered, week by week, and are posted on our web site. We served more than 200 CSA subscribers in 2009, 2010 and 2011. We want to add more members in the coming growing season. We sell a great cookbook written especially for CSA membership by our Madison Area CSA Coalition. It is called "Asparagus to Zucchini" and helps our members reference cooking tips, storage tips and recipes for almost all of the varieties we grow. We are also sponsoring or co-hosting cooking and food preservation trainings for our members, especially during on-farm events. Delivery points, a map and driving directions to our farm are at our web site. We received Frontera Farmer Foundation awards in 2009 and 2010 to upgrade and expand our watering capacity in greenhouses, and to mechanize planting, cultivating and transplanting of our vegetale crops. Email us for current sign-up forms, featuring payment options, health insurance rebate information and Partner Shares programs for low income households through MACSAC.
