OtterBee's Farm & Fungi
(Brookings-Harbor,OR)OtterBee's Farm CSA Share Program is built around a loosely-formed network of local farms, all of which are located within a 150-miles radius of Brookings-Harbor. When you become a member of our CSA, you share in 20 weeks of fresh, locally-harvested fruits and vegetables; eleven local farms participate at different times in supplying each week's bounty. So what is CSA? Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is an arrangement that provides a direct link between consumers and local producers of food. Your membership is paid in advance of the yearly harvest; your farmers then know, in advance, what and how much to produce for you, and they provide you with what they've grown throughout the harvest season. How does this CSA work? We offer three share sizes to fit the needs of your household. Each week boxes include, in varying quantities, a seasonal mix of veggies and fruit, some of which you'll be familiar with, and others that may be new to you. Your weekly box will be filled with a wide variety of fruits and veggies, all of which are locally grown, and most of which are organic. Everything is provided in season. Here's what each farm hopes to provide this year: mesclun mix, lettuce, kale, chard, collards, spinach, potatoes, tomatoes, beets, rhubarb (Riyes Cottage Farm); broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kohlrabi (Sylvia's Farm); Oyster Mushrooms-fresh & dried (Bossi's Mushroom Farm); leeks, peas, carrots, potatoes, lettuce, eggplant (Whole Earth Farm); strawberries, raspberries, marionberries, peas, beans, onions, garlic (Kao's Farm); cherries, apples, plums, prunes, nectarines, summer & winter squash, walnuts (Beebe Farms); corn, tomatoes, basil, cantaloupe, watermelons, summer & winter squash, eggplant, cucumbers, onions, peppers (Seven Oaks Farm); peaches, nectarines, pears (Meyer Orchards); blueberries, plums, apples (Winterflower Farm); apples, grapes (Adams Station); potatoes (Hastings); wild-harvested mushrooms, fresh herbs (OtterBee's Farm & Fungi). And you never have to take something you can't use! Each week you have the option to trade out anything you can't use or don't want for something else; all our partner farms will make the effort to supply extra produce for additional purchase when you pick up your box each week. Of course, we encourage you to try new things, but we don't demand that you take something you don't want. Finally, as a CSA member, you get first crack at each week's harvest; since you'll be picking up your share box on Tuesdays at the Grange (the day before the Wednesday Farmers' Market), you'll know, before anyone else does, what's been harvested that week (and, of course, you'll get your share of the weekly harvest a day ahead of everyone else as well...) NOTE: You can opt to pick up your share on Wednesdays at the Farmers' Market (instead of Tuesdays); just request that when you sign up.
