Applecrest Farm Orchard
(Hampton Falls,NH)Since the days a century ago, when an "Apple Train" ran its route from the heart of Boston to the rolling orchards of Hampton Falls, Applecrest Farm has remained a cornerstone of the local economy and community. A 4th generation farm, Applecrest is the oldest and largest orchard on the New Hampshire Seacoast, nutured on by the Wagner family, who remain dedicated to their simple mission of sustainably growing the finest fruit and vegetables available. Visiting the farm today, one will discover a bounty of grown-on-the-farm delights, including leafy greens and summer vegetables, over 30 varities of apples, tree-ripened peaches, nectarines, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, sweet corn, pumpkins and fresh pressed all-natural cider from an on-site mill. Beneath the timbers of a 200 year-old hand hewn barn, Applecrest also offers an array of other locally produced farm goods, including jams and jellies, milk, eggs, cheese, butter, honey and maple syrup. After browsing the adjacent country craft gift shop, one can sample the Farm Market Bakery, serving up a host of made-from-scratch goodies, including pies, crisps, cookies, breads, caramel and candied apples, fresh fudge and hot apple cider donuts. Perhaps the best reason to visit Applecrest, is for their seasonal Pick-Your-Own program, where one can freely romp the orchards and fields gathering strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pumpkins, peaches and, of course, apples. They also feature a large cut-your-own flower and herb garden. In July, Applecrest hosts their annual Strawberry Festival. In August, a Peach Festival. An educational tour program is offered each Fall for local schools, churches and community groups. And every Weekend through the months of September and October, Applecrest offers their famous Fall Festivals which include apple and pumpkin picking, live bluegrass music, a corn roast and sausage grill, antique car and tractor shows, horse-drawn hayrides, a petting zoo and many other family oriented farm activities.
