163rd St. Bridge F.M./ PROJECT: URBAN FARMER; Growing Organically, Hydroponically and Socially

(Sunny Isles Beach,FL)

I'm sorry to inform you that due to the cost of transportation (coming from an hour plus away, Homestead & Palm Beach Co.) and to the rising fertilizer prices (in part due to the cost of petroleum), its likely there's NOT going to be a farmer's market. Ideally, our farmer’s market was to be reminiscent of a time when life was simple, back to basics. Unfortunately times have changed dramatically... there are so few small local farmers and even fewer organic farmers. The large commercial farmers aren't interested in a small farmer's market. Friends of the Farmer wasn't going to accomplish our goals by bringing in food vendors and food brokers. However, as 'they' say, "when given lemons, make lemonade". When speaking with the farmers they all told me one common thing, 'you don't need a farmer's market, you need to grow more farmers'. Friends of the Farmer has officially launched Project: Urban Farmer; Growing Organically, Hydroponically & Socially. Imagine a vertical farm, a greenhouse of the future in Sunny Isles Beach. Farming superior produce to serve our local community and local businesses while dramatically cutting the cost of transportation. We once had Victory Gardens in the '40s; I like to think of this as the modern day Victory it a "Patriot Garden", helping to eliminate the dependence on petroleum. Check out : Friends of the Farmer would still like to challenge the public to make aware & conscious decisions about choosing self-sustaining agriculture and the benefits of buying local when possible and being GREEN. Friends of the Farmer's Goals: It's simple, we want to support our local organic farmers by designing a REAL Farmer's Market, with REAL Farmers to serve and bring together all segments of our community. Support of state & local ORGANIC growers and producers (Direct Producers) Support for environmentally friendly farming, including the use of organic compost and natural fertilizers-free of chemicals, pesticides, hormones and antibiotic supplements Committed to Project: Urban Farmer; Growing Organically, Hydroponically & Socially
