Paumanok Preserves reflect over one-hundred years of family tradition. As a young bride, Mom picked Beach Plums and made just enough of that unique jam for our family. As children, my sisters and I picked huckleberries for Grandma to turn into delectable fresh jam and syrup. Paumanok Preserves is an extension of my heritage. "Paumanok" is the Native American name for Long Island: "shaped like a fish," its tail forms the Twin Forks, jutting East into the Atlantic Ocean. Agriculture still sustains the local economy, especially on the North Fork, where I am able to buy almost all the fresh fruit and produce- and wines- that make Paumanok Preserves so special. Made in the NYS Department of Agriculture licensed farm kitchen in our original farmhouse, my jams, chutneys, jellies, conserves, fruit butters, marmalades and salsa- and occasional Limited Editions- are cooked in small batches, earning the accolade "Long Island's Gold Standard" by our loyal customers. From June 10th, when I get the call from local strawberry growers that the fruit is perfect, to selecting from a wonderful array of apples at local orchards in September, I'm running to the farms for the best produce money can buy, hauling it into my kitchen, then prepping, cooking and bottling for peak flavor.
