La-Terre Chapter - Louisiana Master Gardeners - Lafourche/Terrebonne Parishes Master Gardeners are volunteers who support the LSU Ag Center Cooperative Extension Office educational programs in consumer horticulture. They develop horticultural expertise through participation in programs provided by the Extension Office. Master Gardeners commit to volunteer service to assist the Extension Office with the followng objectives: * To expand the capacity of the LA Cooperative Extension Service to distribute horticultural information to individuals and groups in the community * To develop and enhance community programs related to horticulture * To enhance 4-H programs related to horticulture * To develop a volunteer network under the direction of the Cooperative Extension Service The La-Terre Master Gardener program began in 2000 and has grown to be a viable community program of more than 70 Master Gardeners who are making significant contributions to the communities in which they live. Members volunteer to participate ina number of horticultural related community projects associated with the following: Habitat for Humanity; Tourist Commission; Terrebonne Folklife Cultural Center; Thibodaux's Farmer's Market; James Aitken and Bon Jovi Subdivisions; Junio Master Gardener Program in neighboring communities. MG's have been involved with many parish events such as the Spring Garden Show (which evolved into the annual Bonne Terre Garden Fair), Fete de Ecologie, Tomato Field Day (evolving in 2009 into Vegetable Field Day), Citrus and Turf Days, and Thibodeauxville... The La-Terre Chapter of the Louisiana Master Gardeners is always interested in increasing its membership of active volunteers. Any adult that has a willingness to learn and a desire to help others can become a Louisiana Master Gardener.
