Territorial Road Orchard

Territorial Road Orchard was established in 2005 by Larry and Rebecca Landis. It is part of a farmstead just south of Corvallis, Oregon, that includes the 1890 Smith-Rickard House, which is listed on the Benton County Register of Historic Places. The orchard had its beginnings in the early 1950s when a previous owner of the property planted apple tree stock that came from Oregon's famous Hood River Valley. The varieties included Newtown Pippin, Jonathan, Fameuse (Snow Apple), King and Graventstein apples. Subsequent owners planted additional trees over the years. Today the orchard has nearly 100 apple, pear, plum, cherry, quince and walnut trees -- all organically grown. In addition to the orchard, the farmstead includes market gardens and a large heirloom rose garden -- all works in progress. The market garden produces tomatoes (cherry, salad, heirloom), chile peppers, greens (mustards, kale, chard, arugula), tomatillos, summer squash, cucumbers, catnip and other herbs that are sold at the Corvallis Farmers' Market. Future plans include expanding the orchard and market garden, adding grapes and berries, completing the heirloom rose garden, installing a rainwater catchment system, rehabbing the milking parlor/barn, and establishing an on-site farm stand in the 1910s era garage. Farm tours are available by appointment.
