Roslindale Village Main Street Farmers' Market

(Roslindale Village,MA)

The 29th season of the Roslindale Village Main Street Farmers´┐Ż?? Market begins Saturday, June 7. This year's market season will begin with the market in the upper MBTA parking lot at the Roslindale Village commuter line station at South Conway and Robert Street in Roslindale Village. The new venue is temporary while renovations, which have begun, continue in Adams Park where the market has been for several years. The farmers' market expects to relocate back to Adams Park in September after the renovations are complete and the turf has taken hold. The market will be open 9am to 1:30 every Saturday, rain or shine, through November 22nd. This season, the Roslindale Village Farmers' Market will provide an opportunity for more vendors each week as both the temporary and the refurbished Adams Park will have more vendor stall spaces than ever before. Ben Sommers, Project Manager expects 40 vendors every Saturday ranging from traditional produce farmers, specialty farmers, local food producers, as well as arts and crafts and local nonprofits of interest. New partnerships and more diverse children's activities will be featured this year with children's programing each week. In addition to the interactive children's activities and Davey the Clown, this year a petting zoo is planned as well as programing with Playworks, an organization that helps children integrate play with team work, cooperation and learning. Entertainment and music is planned for each week as in years past, even in the new temporary location. Vendor registration has been very strong as word grows about Boston's first neighborhood farmers' market. Produce farmers returning this year include: Mac Arthur Farm, Allandale Farm, Brookwood Community Farm, The Neighborhood Farm and Two Field Farm. Other farming operations that will be at the market on a weekly or occasional schedule include: Apex Orchards (bringing a variety of fruits later in the season), City Growers (an innovative Boston organization that converts abandoned city lots into thriving green farms), Ferrara's Greenhouse (specializing in potted plants and flowers), Mycoterra Farm (producers of diverse, gourmet mushrooms), Lilac Hedge Farm (with sustainability raised meats), Wolf Meadow Farm (artisan cheese makers), and Foxboro Cheese (fresh local cheese). The Roslindale Farmers' Market brings up to 3000 shoppers each week into the village, many of whom also shop at other stores in the business district. To facilitate business awareness, this years farmers' market will initiate a new program that will feature Roslindale Village businesses with no, or low fees to have a booth. With a shift in the market to the opposite side of the village, free parking will be available (as in years past) at the lower MBTA lot, in the municipal lot off South Street as well as on- street parking.
