Tranquil Farms

Tranquil Farms is a small family run farm in Montgomery, TX. We believe in and use sustainable farming and traditional animal husbandry practices in all of our farm operations. This farm has been in our family for over 30 years and during that time has never had any chemical fertilizers or pesticides used. We like to grow and sell heritage varieties of produce, many of which are listed in the US Ark of Taste list maintained by Slow Foods USA ( We find that these varieties retain the excellent tastes that we remember in the foods we were served by our parents and grandparents when we were growing up. We are also strong supporters of genetic diversity in livestock as well. We raise many breeds on our farm that are listed as critically endangered by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy ( Among these are American Milking Devon Cattle, Red Wattle Hogs, Gulf Coast Native Sheep, Cotton Patch Geese, Delaware Chickens, and Muscovy and Cayuga Ducks. We raise these for breeding stock as well as meat production. Not surprisingly, many of these meat varieties are also listed in the US Ark of Taste because of their outstanding flavor and/or regional character. We are also working on licensing for both a Grade A dairy as well as a "Raw for Retail" dairy. Once we have our licensing, we plan to offer milk, butter, and artisan cheeses for sale. Lastly we are working on developing a variety of classes for those interested in learning more about such topics as farming basics, cooking, home canning, and growing mushrooms to name a few. Our farm website will soon have details regarding scheduling, pricing, and registration for these classes. We welcome visitors to the farm who are interested in seeing our gardens, our livestock operations, or just what is happening on the farm. It is always best to contact us when planning a trip to see the farm however so that you can be certain we will be here to show you around.
