Stemple Creek Ranch

Stemple Creek Ranch is a family owned and operated cattle ranch in Marin County, California. We raise our animals on our own pasture land just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. Our beef and lamb is all natural, organic, and grass-fed, and we are confident you will enjoy and appreciate it as much as we do. The Poncia family has lived and farmed on the same ranch site in Tomales, California since Angelo Poncia, our family's first immigrant to the United States from Italy, settled here in 1902. Today, Angelo's grandson and great-grandson still operate our family's business raising all natural, grass-fed beef and lamb. We are proud of our family history and of the ranch land that we have stewarded for the past 100+ years. The land is an extension of our family, with Stemple Creek winding through the rolling hills and emptying into the Pacific Ocean just a few miles west of our home. At Stemple Creek Ranch we are environmentally conscious and value biodiversity in our pastures and riparian areas. We strive to work with mother nature to keep the land abundant and the animals healthy and happy. We accomplish this by using a variety of techniques, including protecting creeks and adjacent land with cattle crossings, utilizing electric fences that can be reconfigured in response to changing conditions, planting native species on creek banks, and carefully monitoring grazing to allow these areas to remain productive and protect them from over use. Our goal is to give each pasture at least sixty days of rest before the animals are rotated back into it. We have fenced off over three miles of creek beds on our ranches and planted over 1,000 trees to help control erosion, provide shade to cool the creeks, and create habitat for birds to nest. In 2002, Alfred Poncia, the third of four generations of Poncia's in the ranching business, received the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Excellence in Conservation Award. This is the highest award the NRCS gives to honor those outside the Federal government for their work in conservation. We raise 100% Angus all natural grass-fed beef and all natural grass-fed lamb. The animals eat organic clover and grass and are never subjected to artificial hormones, growth promotants, or antibiotics.
