Beech Springs Alpacas

Beech Springs Alpacas was initiated in 2003 and has grown from a start-up herd of 6 to a current tally of 38 animals. The animals are loved, cared for and prized for the fine fiber they produce. Breeding decisions take into account the fiber that the next generation will produce, hoping for improved density (pounds of fiber per animal) and fineness (the softness of each strand). Many pounds of fiber is sent to mills yearly and a variety of yarns is produced, primarily sport weight and bulky weight. I am experimenting with mixing some alpaca with bamboo and silk which makes a fabulous product for knitters. Before shearing, some customers pick their animal, choosing a particular color that they would like yarn made from. In 2013, I am continuing the public's ability to purchase CSA shares of my shearing clip! Do you know where your yarn has been? The purchase of full, half or double shares will grant the shareholder skeins of yarn or rovings created from the fiber of my animals, as well as all American made alpaca socks. These socks are produced at a New England based cooperative of which I am a member, supplying them with a portion of my fiber after shearing. Of course, there is that "end product" of manure which is available for gardens. I have many loyal customers who enjoy a farm visit and fun of loading up all that paca poo; all raving about the great veggies and flowers that it helps produce. Farm tours arranged by appointment. I work as a nurse practitioner during the week, so visits must be scheduled in advance. I look forward to seeing you!
