Finer Things from the Land of Milk and Honey

(St Louis,MO)

Finer Things is reminiscent of grandma's kitchen garden: a small space of well cared for gardens for herbs, flowers, seasonal vegetables and fruit trees providing food to the family in an ecologically safe way. To assist in this effort, flora are carefully picked to support the local fauna. Bees and butterflies abound in balanced harmony producing abundant produce for the household with additional goods for sale. The primary excess goods from Finer Things are honey products, especially creamed and flavored honey. Strawberries, raspberries, peaches, cherries and lemons combined with fresh creamed honey create a flavorful sweet with several benefits. Besides being dripless on a fresh from the oven scratch biscuit, creamed honey extends moisture retention and freshness of baked goods and natural non-heated honey retains its natural nutrients. Additional honey products available include beeswax candles, soap, skin moisturizer and lip balm made with honey or beeswax, beeswax blocks and beeswax furniture polish. In addition, homemade cheeses from both goat's and cow's milk are full of flavor. Try chevre with almonds and almond honey or aged cheddar with fresh grapes. There is stilton, gorgonzola dolci, havarti, gruyere, mozzarella, asiago, provolone and feta all made from fresh milk from local farms. Most of the animals are primarily grass fed. The fresh milk and cream provide the ingredients for fresh butter, buttermilk, whey, and sour cream. And then there are the decadent chocolates made with the farm fresh cream and butter with locally grown nuts to create truffles, turtles, toffee, chocolate covered caramels and buckeyes. If grandma had known about localharvest.org, this is what she would have listed!
