Red Root Native Nursery
(Asheville,NC)We grow seedlings/liners of species native to the southeastern Appalachian woodlands--many with medicinal properties. Our plants are never collected from the wild. We offer species that are challenging to propagate from seed, as they have strict seed collection or germination requirements. Our transplants can be grown to maturity more quickly, saving a year or more in production time, and reducing the chance of losses due to germination failure. Current perennial offerings include: Actaea racemosa (black cohosh), Aletris farinosa (true unicorn, colicroot), Aquilegia canadensis (wild columbine), Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed), Allium tricoccum (Ramps), Baptisia tinctoria (Wild Indigo), Chamaelirium luteum (false unicorn, fairy wand), Hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal), Iris cristata (dwarf-crested iris), Lobelia cardinalis, Mitchella repens (partridge berry), Panax quinqefolia (American ginseng), Asarum canadense (wild ginger), Galax urceolata (Galax), Gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen), Liatris spicata (Blazing star), Monarda fistulosa (wild bergamot), Pachysandra procumbens (Allegheny spurge), Polygonatum biflorum (great Solomon's seal), Arisaema triphyllum (Jack-in-the-pulpit). Native shrubs we grow: Callicarpa americana (American beautyberry), Ceanothus americanus (red root, NJ tea), Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo tree--not native), Hydrangea quercifolia (oakleaf hydrangea), Kalmia latifolia (Mountain laurel), and various species of native Rhododendron (catawba, carolina, flame azaleas, pinkshell azaleas) We offer wholesale and retail pricing. Wholesale prices available with a minimum purchase of $45.
