Poquonock Plains Urban Farm

(Groton,CT)

Poquonock Plains Urban Farm is inspired by permaculture, biodynamic and biointensive methods. The farm also incorporates the philosophies of Elliot Coleman, and Scott and Helen Nearing. This farm is two years old. Despite the newness of this venture the farmer has many years of experience growing food in VT, and NY. This season the farm will be offering 16 week shares. Beginning the third week in June, and going until the end of Sept. The cost is $325.00; $100.00 will be due by January 31, 2012, and the balance of $225.00 will be due by June 1, 2012. I am also to willing work with those who might need special consideration. CSA pick up or DELIVERY will be arranged on an individual basis, as is convenient for both you and the farm. Traditional New England seasonal veggies will be available, as well as some unique and/or heirloom varieties. Because this is a small CSA you may make requests. If you hate tomatoes but love spinach let me know and I will substitute. Every week will be different and there may also be surprises like a eggs or a bouquet of fresh flowers. An example a early July share will likely include -
  • 1 bag of peas
  • 1 or 2 summer squash
  • 2 or 3 cucumbers
  • 1 bunch of swiss chard or kale
  • 1 bunch of baby carrots
  • 2 heads of lettuce
  • 1 bunch of parsley and/or basil
  • 1 bunch of radishes
  • 1/2 dozen eggs
  • Half shares are also available if you or I can find someone for you to split it with. Vegetables will be available at a small farm stand as well. I am also available as time permits to help you start your own garden, learn how preserve and can food, and answer any questions you many have about the food we eat and sustainable food systems.
