Tune Farm

(Falkville,AL)

We are honored to be a collaborator and incubator as a sub-awardee on a three-year Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program, run by Alabama A&M and funded through the USDA. We will recruit, grow and assist new and beginning farmers and ranchers in Alabama through mentoring, hands-on, farm incubator experience and farmer-to-farmer training. Many young people have little or no experience in sustainable, organic farming practices and the business of farming -- others may have sufficient knowledge and experience, but insufficient access to the essential infrastructure (land, equipment, adequate housing, etc.) needed to found their own farms. With our farmer-to-farmer internships and beginning farmer incubator program, Tune Farm will be able to address both of these needs. This fall, we will welcome our first fully incubated farmers and two more of our young farm interns will begin the transition to their own independent farm enterprises on-site. You will begin seeing them at some of your farmers markets starting next spring (2014). Our mission is to become Alabama‚??s model beginning farmer incubator site. This will require an intensive re-prioritization and reorganization of Tune Farm‚??s previous model of operation and a re-purposing of its available resources. As we move into this all-important season of transition and planning, we have decided that the best next step forward for Tune Farm is to take a year off from intensive farming so that we can focus on creating the needed infrastructure for our beginning farmers. While this means that Tune Farm will be not be selling at markets next year, we are thrilled to announce that our incubating farmers will be going to market in our place. They will be growing the same delicious, certified organic produce right here, on that amazing Tune Farm soil, while launching their own independent farm enterprises. We hope that you will continue to support Tune Farm by supporting these exceptionally dedicated, hard-working and hopeful young farmers. Our market presence for the rest of the year (2013) will vary depending on what we will still be able to harvest each week. We also look forward to seeing you there as our perennial fruits and nuts come in. We will be sure to give plenty of notice as to when these market appearances will be. We look forward to updating you throughout this next year as our plans for Tune Farm solidify. We are proud to continue to partner with you in the movement to see a healthier, localized food system in Alabama.
