At Living Soil Microfarms raised beds are used to grow a large variety of crops in a small space. The use of hand tools and manual labor are emphasized to promote a close relationship with nature. A diversity of crops help maintain a healthy agroecosystem. Through trial and error, crops have been chosen that prove to grow well at this site using these growing methods. Many varieties of perennial fruits and vegetables are also grown. Nearly permanent mulch helps maintain soil life and fertility. Small scale agriculture is promoted as a healthy and sustainable lifestyle that is suitable worldwide. There are two microfarms, one near Genesee and the other in Moscow, Idaho. Both locations have resident farmers.
