CSA Stands for Community Supported Agriculture and provides a direct link between farmers and consumers. The Longview Center for Agriculture is operated by Greener Partners, a non-profit organization that envisions a world where everyone has access to locally grown, organic food. In addition to our farms, we have developed youth programs to connect youth and teens with the foods we eat. These programs often use our farms as classrooms, or the food grown on the land as a teaching tool. Our interactive Workshop series for adults provides educational workshops to deliver knowledge about the many Lost Art from our agricultural and cultural past, including cooking, cultivating, preserving and self-care
Our education programs include Seed to Snack®, which is designed to help youth think about the origins of their food and to expose them to foods that are grown seasonally and locally, and SOL (Seasonal, Organic, Local) Food, which trains teens to be community leaders in the areas of sustainable organic gardening, wellness and local food systems. The next generation of farmers is at the center of the new food system we envision, and we believe they need a diverse knowledge base from soil preparation and heavy equipment mechanics to marketing the harvest to winter production to succeed as entrepreneurs in the growing local food economy. Through our farm, our CSA community, and our youth programs we seek to change the way people think about their food and the environment to create more vibrant communities. When you support The Longview Center for Agriculture as a CSA member, you directly support all of Greener Partners diverse programs.
CSA Share Information All produce is grown at The Longview Center for Agriculture, located in Collegeville. The Longview Farm season lasts 25 weeks, from approximately May until mid-October. Every week you will receive a share of just-harvested, seasonal produce. Produce items will vary according to seasonal availability and will total approximately10 items per week for a Full Share, or half share - 6 items per week for a Medium Share. In addition, 2-3 You-Pick items such as vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers are included in your share most weeks. One full share should be enough for a family of four, or enough for two hearty vegetable eaters. Our members tell us that participating in a CSA increased both the quantity of vegetables they eat and how often they cook and eat at home. Because the produce is picked within 24 hours of receiving your share, it is extremely fresh and will last several weeks, if stored properly.
We offer pick up on Wednesday and Saturdays at Longview Farm Market. You will be contacted in the spring regarding your day preference and with additional logistical information regarding the farm and your membership.
A note about shared risk: In true partnership, CSA members share the risks of agriculture with farmers, ensuring that even in the event of unforeseen circumstances, farmers livelihood will be secure. Such risks are minimized through smart growing, including through the planting of a diversity of crops that are resilient to a range of conditions. In the spirit of our commitment to the traditions of CSAs and food co-ops, your membership shows we are all-farmer and consumer-connected.
Membership Benefits In addition to your weekly share and available You-Pick items, members will be offered a discount on the Longview Farm Friend Club Membership.
