We took the Stateline Farm Beginnings course through Angelic Organics Learning Center in 2009 and graduated in 2010.
Our farm started on a 200' x 80' field at a fellow CRAFT/SFB (Stateline Farm Beginnings) graduate's farm during 2010. We attended one farmers market in our first season. We have a history of volunteering at Prairie Crossing Learning Farm (2009-2011) and have worked on three other local organic farms in the Chicagoland area over the past three years, two of those farms included CSAs and two utilized farmers markets as selling venues.
During the winter of 2010-2011, we took a CSA Planning course through Michael Fields Agricultural Institute and learned many valuable things from other farmers about running a successful CSA.
Theresa has served three years as a Growers Group facilitator for a group of local organic farmers through Angelic Organics Learning Center. We have also been CRAFT members (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) for the past three years.
We are a family owned farm in Woodstock, IL that is currently an organically grown vegetable farm - non-GMO, non-certified, working towards organic certification. We currently have 120 laying hens which are Red Sex Link hens and then we have 50 heritage breeds pullets which will be laying later this (2014) summer. We have a limited number of free-range eggs (working towards organic certification) that are available on a first come first serve basis.
We also have seven Holland White turkeys, which all have been reserved.
Since 2013 we have been raising Freedom Rangers, a slower growing broiler, and Cornish Cross birds for meat. Our first batch was processed June 12 (we have a limited number of frozen birds available for sale). We will have another small batch ready late June/early July. Our third batch will be ready late August/early September. We may squeeze in another batch for October, that has yet to be decided.
We also own two Guernsey cows, three Oberhasli goats (our daughter makes goat milk soap) and three Babydoll lambs for breeding. Lamb will not be available until 2015 or 2016.
We sell our products on the farm, at the Wauconda Green Market, Lake Zurich Exercise Coach and Elawa Farms in Lake Forest, plus a couple other local events in the Chicago area.
