Luffa sponges come from gourds that grow as an expansive vine. We are using them to grow on a greenhouse frame in the summer to create a shadehouse. The fruits from the vines become luffas as they dry and the outer skin is removed to reveal the sponge.
The sponges work to exfoliate the skin while cleaning. They can also provide a natural alternative to synthetic dish sponges, and when the luffa sponge wears out, you can just compost it.
Each sponge can be cut into pieces or used whole, depending on the purpose. The smaller luffas are finer and softer on the skin while the larger luffas are better suited for cleaning dishes.
Our products are grown in farming systems that seek to mimic natural ecosystems, while fitting into the holistic vision of the farm. Permaculture, biodynamic and organic practices are combined to maximize the health of the farm, the soil, and the products that come from it.
