Vining gourd that can be eaten when young somewhat like okra or squash. The vine has beautiful yellow flowers which hummingbirds often visit. In the fall the fruit can be gathered after it has dried on the vine. Take the dried gourd and soak in water until the tough outer skin is soft and can be removed. The gourd will probably be dark. You can take a small amount of bleach and water and soak the gourd until it is a light natural color. These can now be used as bath sponges or used in the kitchen . You can use them to wash dishes or scrub vegetables...they're very handy.
