Spring! Ducks are hatching and the first batch of broilers is on the way. The mild winter here in Putnam has brought a bounty of fresh spring eggs. Dozens are available in mixed colors of brown, white and green. We also have a limited supply of duck eggs. They are delicious and make the most lovely cheese souffles. The picture this month is our new barn pups who will be helping to guard the sheep this year. Our spring lambing has concluded. The lambs are big and healthy, most likely due to the mild conditions that allowed the ewes to put their energy into lamb growth instead of just keeping warm. Shearing was at the end of March and whole fleeces are available now for spinning, felting, weaving or other fiber pusuits will be available then.
