One of the finest southern jellies is mayhaw jelly. Mayhaw jelly is produced using the juice from mayhaw (Crataegus opaca) berries.
Mayhaw is a hawthorn shrub native to the southern and southeatern United States. In the wild, mayhaws typically grown in low, wet, slightly acid areas, however mayhaws produce best when grown on good upland soils in full sun. Honeybees are invaluable to the pollination of mayhaw flowers to produce mayhaw fruit used in jelly, jam, syrup, wine.

In our effort to help fellow Louisiana small farmers promote their local organically grown products, we are selling mayhaw jelly and mayhaw syrup produced by Warner Farms, LLC, circa 1820, located in Warnerton, Louisiana. No insecticides are used on the mayhaw flowers or fruit.
I provided this small local farmer with free honeybee colonies so that my honeybees can pollinate his mayhaw flowers and provide him with a bigger mayhaw crop than in previous years.
Mayhaw jelly is personally one of my favorite southern jellies. Good on peanut butter sandwiches, biscuts, or on bread. Mayhaw syrup is great over waffles, pancakes, biscuts, or try some in your coffee!
