Our hardwood shiitake mushroom logs will produce for up to 5 years depending on which size you select.
Your shiitake log comes with complete instructions and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns. Mushroom production will increase during your logs life with proper care, and will slowly drop off as the log reaches its then end of its life. Your spent log can then be added to your compost pile or wood stove.
We have found a way to make our business very green by not cutting our trees completely down, we short cut our alders and soon we have 4 ot 8 alders at the same spot. Selective cutting is also a form of harvest for our larger trees which then become garden logs with a life span of up to 20 years depending on the diameter of the log. Our Grandpa Log is still producing after 15 years. Garden logs are for "Farm Pick-up Only".
Fungi Farm prides itself in producing a very high quality mushroom log that will produce for years when cared for properly. During the mushroom season our logs produce more mushrooms than we can eat so we air dry them and are now available on our website starting this year
Fresh shiitake's that you will harvest off your log have a meaty texture are far superior to sawdust raised shiitake's availble in grocery stores. As a matter of fact we guarantee that once you have eaten one of our log raised shiitakes you will never ever eat sawdust raised shiitakes again. Most grocery stores only sell sawdust raised shiitakes, so take the challenge and you will see and taste the difference. Log raised shiitakes are higher in nutrients and will last up to 21 days after harvest.
