In partnership with The Hunger Action Network of New York State (HANNYS) and The New York City Coalition Against Hunger, a Community Supported Agriculture project has been launched in Long Island City, Queens as a comprehensive solution to a variety of shortcomings in the neighborhoods food structure. The neighborhood, home to Queensbridge Houses - the largest public housing development in the nation, is serviced by one grocery store. This lack of food availability, coupled with high prices and nutrition inadequacies lead to an unsustainable food system. Our CSA will tackle food affordability issues by specifically targeting low-income families as members to offer them a variety of flexible payment options that are viable, as well as fair and appropriate for our farmer.
