Founded in 1972, the Missoula Farmers' Market has provided a friendly space for the local gardeners, farmers and orchardists to offer the Missoula community locally grown and fresh-picked produce.
Over the years, we have added various items such as baked goods from home kitchens as well as commercial bakers, bedding plants and flowers, wild and cultivated mushrooms, eggs, and huckleberries.
The season runs on Saturdays from May 1 until October 23; the hours are 8:30 am to noon. The Tuesday evening market runs from July 6 until September 14; the hours are 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The Market is located on North Higgins at Circle Square (the X's).
The Market offers:
SPRING: early greens, bedding plants, mushrooms, eggs, jams, jellies, & baked goods
SUMMER: cucumbers, peas and beans, beets, carrots, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, apricots, peaches, melons
AUTUMN: onions, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, corn, cabbage, potatoes, pumpkins, apples
Our first Tuesday evening markets begin on July 6th this season. The hours are 5:30 to 7 p.m. The place is our site at the north end of Higgins Avenue. The Tuesday evening markets will run through September 14th. Come one, come all!
Saturdays, 8:30 am-12:00 noon(May to October)
Tuesdays, 5:30-7:15pm (July & August)
It is an amazing social event where local growers can display there beautiful produce. Many venders also make the market a gala affair.
If eating food were merely an activity of consumption farmers' markets would be a nostalgic reminder of the past, but since the closeness to the earth and the source of what we eat and participate with matters, Missoula's farmers' market provides a place where I can encounter the hands that pick the vegetables I eat.
