Morning Glory is a very fast growing annual vine that prefers full sun. The flowers will attract both hummingbirds and butterflies. They also attract Lady Bugs into your garden, so if you plant them among the beans, squash and peppers, the results will be better pollination and fewer pests. The vines will die with the winter freeze but re-seed themselves each year. When planted to grow on a trellis or fence they will rapidly cover it again the next spring.
Because of their fast growth and tolerance for poor, dry soils, morning glories are an excellent choice of vine for creating summer shade on building walls when trellised, thus keeping the building cooler. When they die back in late fall the sun then heats the wall during winter months providing thermal gains.
