Mowat Apiaries, producers of Mt. Shasta Honey, is located in Weed, California near the base of Mt. Shasta in Northern California. We are Alistair and Carol Mowat, beekeepers. What began as a hobby 7 years ago is now our full-time work. We manage about 500 colonies of healthy bees we carefully move around the Mt. Shasta countryside in rhythm with seasonal flowering. Depending on the year, this variety of flower blossoms allows us to produce varietal honeys such as manzanita and vetch (a pea flower) clover, blackberry, alfalfa, starthistle and wildflower. Our lucky bees spend the winters in the milder Redding area. There they prepare to pollinate almonds in the northern central valley in February before coming home in the spring to make honey.
