MULLEIN - COMMON - GREAT - KANSAS WILD Mullein is a very unusual plant. Fully grown they remind me of giant saguaro cactus in the Arizona desert. Mullein can get very tall and have several arms.

It does well in dry, sandy conditions, especially in alkaline soil. Medicinally, Mullein is believed to have a plethora of uses ranging from its most common use as a cough suppressant for colds, emphysema, asthma, hay fever, and whooping cough to a remedy for bruises, insect bites, hemorrhoids and earache. A poultice was sometimes made from the leaves or flowers as a treatment for burns and boils. The leaves were once smoked as a remedy for asthma, bronchitis and other inflammatory disorders. Mullein is also believed to hold anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties.

The whole plant is said to possess sedative and narcotic properties.

Till and lightly water the soil of the area where you want to plant your mullein seeds. Plant them shallowly and lightly cover with soil and a thin layer of mulch. It will take your mullein seeds about 2 weeks to germinate.
