The Neighborhood Farm Initiative, a non-profit project sponsored by America the Beautiful Fund, aims to preserve green space in Washington, D.C. and help expand knowledge and access to organic vegetable production.

NFI is currently operating an urban vegetable farm on almost half an acre of metro-accessible land in Northeast DC. We're teaching a hands-on, season-long training course in organic vegetable gardening and running a demonstration market garden to help with cost-recovery. In addition to the formal gardening class (limited to 20 students), NFI has had over 150 different volunteers working on-site in the garden since our inception in March 2009.

We are always seeking volunteers and interns; can offer school credit for internship.

Classes include: - Your own garden plot, - All the plants and garden materials you'll need - 10 instructional & demonstration sessions - Weekly staffed hours to help you apply class lessons - All the vegetables you grow
