When we got started we had little experience with farming, just a few pieces of equipment and no idea that the apple orchard would become such an important part of their spruce tree operation. Donna, Leon, & Lee Nesbitt started the Nursery in 1995, and in the spring of 1996 the whole family got together to plant the first spruce and apple trees; 8,500 Colorado Blue and Black Hills spruce and 100 apple trees. From the original three varieties of apples that Lee and Leah planted in 1996, we have grown to incorporate a wide range of different apple varieties and products. In 2005 they opened a retail space in which they provide locally produced and sourced products. In addition to the multitude of their own Food Alliance Certified apples, produce and fresh pressed cider, they offer syrup, honey (harvested from their backyard) fair-trade & organic coffee, homemade ice cream, local art and music, and now we offer breakfast, lunch and pastries in our eatery, Oasis Eatery.
