A green innovative drive towards sustainable localized food security.

My visions is to create a 2 acre test garden for Small Plot Intensive (SPIN) farming on the Sunshine Coast British Columbia from which a scalable management model will be developed and extended to unite and uniquely benefit land owners, farmers and consumers through the establishment of collaborative, sustainable, green energy innovative, organic, year round food sovereign communities. The project will also include the development and implementation of a hands on school curriculum component to revive intergenerational appreciation for fresh, local food and renew the view of farming as a viable career path.

The model farm at 7424 Tapp Road will serve as a local food hub and demonstration environment where consumers can connect with food, progressive and innovative green technology and build community. Layout :

  • 2 acres of test garden approximately 960 - 25ft by 2ft beds of mixed vegetables and fruits, various rotations, some permaculture and fruit trees.
  • .6 acre of roadway/pathway and locations of sheds, chicken coup, well and geotransfer heating project and apiary
  • 1 acre for farmer's accommodation (existing single wide trailer), existing greenhouse, second larger greenhouse, amphitheatre, cafe and guest cottage
  • 1 acre for Hammond Family residence with equipment shop and corner farm stand
  • Milestones: May - Secure Project Financing June - August - Farm Planning & Cafe Development September - Break Ground at Tapp Road Fall/Winter 2011 - Site Prep, Building Construction, Green Energy Development February 2012 - Early Spring Planting Late March 2012 - First Produce Launch 2012 - ADD minimum 3 additional SPIN Acres & begin planning for Golden/Columbia Valley Expansion 2013 - ADD minimum 5 additional SPIN Acres 2014 - ADD minimum 10 SPIN ACRES per year

The ultimate goal of the Tapp Road location is to create a localized, self-sustaining input system with zero waste, a negative carbon footprint and a green energy surplus that can contribute back to the local energy grid.
