Northwest PA Growers Cooperative

The NWPA Growers Cooperative is a group of farms from Butler, Clarion, Mercer, Lawrence, Crawford and Erie counties working together to provide consumers with naturally-raised, fresh, local food all 52 weeks of the year. Our farms are Certified Organic / Certified Naturally Grown, or if not certified, are required to use only natural, sustainable methods of raising produce and livestock. No hormones, anitbiotics, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides are permitted. Meats are free-range, grass-fed, or pasture-based. The co-op' s on-line weekly 'Winter Market' ( Nov - May) can be accessed through our website. Featuring products from our member farms, customers pre-order from the webstore, then pick up in Slippery Rock on Wednesdays. The NWPA Growers CSA (June-Oct) is a multi-farm CSA, with drop-off locations in Slippery Rock, Grove City, Franklin, Mercer, Zelienople, Sharon/Hermitage, and New Castle. To sign up please use the automated registration on our website starting February 13th, 2011. Our farms also supply local restaurants, health food stores, and natural grocery stores as well as selling at Farmers Markets throughout the region.

This is my first year belonging to a CSA, and am I ever glad I joined! The first week brought lettuces, endive, tender beet greens, fresh cilantro, rhubarb, radishes, green onions and herbal tea -- And that's a small share! So far I've made delicious rhubarb sauce, a dinner salad with the greens, parmesan cheese and pine nuts (the dressing recipe used the fresh cilantro) and used the green onions and radishes with eggs from my egg share to make a yummy egg salad for sandwiches....
