The mission of The Student Farm is to foster knowledge, learning, and appreciation of agriculture and natural ecosystems by building, demonstrating, and researching best management practices for vegetable, fruit, and row crop production using an agroecosystemic approach that combines scientific and sustainable methods of agriculture. By demonstrating best management practices we hope to pave a path forward whereby others can create local agricultural systems which are at once productive, regionally appropriate, and ecologically minded. We believe it possible that agriculture can increasingly protect our natural resources and build strong communities while producing healthy, nutritious food; reducing the risk of climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere; reducing the number of people in the world facing hunger and food insecurity; reducing our dependency on fossil fuels and preparing for peak oil; increasing the prosperity of local economies; and creating a deeper sense of interconnectedness with and between urban and rural communities, farmers and eaters, and the land.
