Orchard Hill Farms is located in rural Kendallville and was founded by the Meyer family who planted apple trees on what had been a grain farm. We began as a wholesale apple supplier, but people would stop to buy direct from the orchard. So, in 1995, Orchard Hill added a farm market, offering 26 apple varieties. Also in 1994, a second farm was planted with an experimental block to test newer apple varieties.
IPM - Integrated Pest Management - is practiced on the farms. This includes the use of pheremone traps to determine pest thresholds. Beneficial insects and animals are encouraged. A healthy environment is maintained as evidenced by the abundant wildlife. Orchard Hill also participates in yearly inspections by the Department of Health and the FDA.
Presently, there are approximately 9,000 apple trees on two farms at Orchard Hill. Educational school tours are given each September and October to acquaint kids with production horticulture.
Apples and apple products - apple butter, jelly, syrup, apple cider and apple cider vinegar - are available at the farm. Cherries, pears and plums are also grown on the farm. We carry locally produced maple syrup, hullless popcorn and pumpkins. Our season begins in August with Michigan peaches. The soil on our farm is not conducive to growing peaches, as we learned when 500 peach trees slowly died in the heavy clay soil! We ship our products as well as holiday gift packs.

I grew up near the farm and always remember the Meyer family as being some of the nicest people around, a fact that remains true today!
Their apples and cider are the absolute best, and the market is well worth a visit.
