Mohair from Phoenix Farm is hand sheared twice per year from holistic pasture-raised animals -- it is 100% natural! Our herd of angora goats range in color from white to taupe to silver, with some black and red animals as well.
This listing is for a 4-ounce braid of organic kid mohair blended with white silk. It is 75% 1st clip kid mohair - 25% silk. This roving was made from the first shearing of our white angora kids and was washed, picked, and processed into this beautiful, lustrous, super soft roving. Ready to spin, this roving needs very little drafting and spins up quickly and beautifully! Kid silk yarn makes amazingly soft garments, blankets, shawls, and socks!
This roving has been stored in a smoke- and pet-free environment. It is ready for you to dye, spin, or felt! Please note that this roving may have small bits of vegetative matter in it that is easily picked out during spinning. I skirt all my fleeces very heavily and hand-pick out any foreign material, but because our processing methods are chemical- and bleach-free (in order to protect delicate fiber), some small bits may be left behind that other chemical heavy processes would obliterate.
Here at The Phoenix, we raise happy, healthy animals in a way that Mother Nature would approve! We offer seasonal products grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, steroids, hormones, or unnecessary antibiotics. We come as close to nature as human intervention will allow.
Everything at Phoenix Farm is raised using organic and holistic principles as we strive to be ecologically responsible. All animal fiber is harvested humanely with no harm or injury to the animals. Fiber is washed with plant-based soaps and dyed with chemical free food-grade dyes. When you buy fiber from Phoenix Farm Fiber, you can be confident that you are getting the most natural fibers without sacrificing quality.
