Half of my farm consists of about 150 grapefruits trees in Weslaco, Texas. Rio Red was released by Texas A & I University in 1984 as a natural mutation from a Ruby Red tree. Its rind has hints of pink and unlike Ruby Reds, its flesh remains bright red throughout the season. It is incredibly sweet, low in acidity, and a light pink color when juiced. It's perfect for juicing and snacking. I highly recommend these grapefruits for those who are cleansing or on a juice fast. Rio Red grapefruits are a healthy alternative to desserts and sweets that contain refined sugars. Even kids love them! Please be sure to pick out all the seeds for the little ones.
This fruit may have some external blemishes on its skin due to the winds that blow from the gulf coast. This appearance, however, does not affect the flavor of the fruit. I pick and pack this fruit myself. It is never dyed or gased. Instead, I pick it at the time of purchase and ship it directly to customers. Be sure to store it in the refridgerator as soon as possible. Although the skin becomes hard after a few weeks, these grapefruits are still delicious even after two months in the refrigerator! My farming practices are minimal, natural, and chemical-free. I disc the soil lightly only twice a year, spray biodynamics prepared by the Josephine Porter Institute once a year, and plant green manure such as cow and snow peas twice a year. I believe less is more.Taste for yourself...
