Herbaceous tendril climbing vine native to the southeastern U.S. common here in Virginia. We grow it on the arbors that are entrances to our seed gardens. The large showy, intricate flowers are mostly lavender with white and green. Needs a trellis, but can be grown indoors.
Medicinal: Used as a tonic by Native Americans, notably the Houma tribe. Later used by Europeans and Americans as a treatment for non-addictive sedative for insomnia, irritable bowel, asthma and nervous tension. Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Garden Medicinals offers over 220 varieties of medicinal and culinary herb seeds, roots, and select heirloom vegetable and ethnic flower seed. All seeds are non-gmo, open-pollinated and untreated. Most seeds are naturally grown and a few are certified organic. Our vegetable seeds do especially well in hot, humid climates where vegetable production can be difficult. Our herb selection also includes dormant root stock of ginger, ginseng, goldenseal, black cohosh, false unicorn, and wild yam.
