Peacework Farm

Peacework Farm was founded in 1998 to be the main season supplier of organic vegetables and herbs to Peacework Organic CSA (formerly GVOCSA) in Rochester, NY. We also serve a smaller group of CSA members who pick up at the farm. Our season runs for 26 weeks from late May to mid-November. We offer sliding-scale pricing for Full shares (Partial shares are a flat fee) and we accept Food Stamps. Sign-up information is on the Peacework Organic CSA website: peaceworkcsa.org (formerly gvocsa.org).

We host member work parties at the farm on Thursday and Sunday mornings. All CSA members participate: Full shares work 3 sessions, Partial shares work 2. A household with 2 adults and a willing teenager can come once and satisfy their Full share farm work requirement for the whole season but can certainly come more often. We have a variety of jobs that accommodate people with a wide range of physical abilities. Children are welcome.

Over 95% of our produce goes to CSA shares. If/when we have extra, it is offered to members on a weekly bulk order list. Typically this list will include lettuce, bunches of herbs and greens, and garlic in the fall. In a good year, we will have bulk quantities of tomatoes for canning in the summer and broccoli for freezing in the fall. We also wholesale some items to Abundance Cooperative Market (which hosts the pick-up site for our Rochester members).

Peacework Farm often has seasonal employment available to people seriously interested in this type of farming. Our season runs from mid-March through November; we do not operate in the winter months.

Peacework Farm is located 35 miles southeast of Rochester on a beautiful parcel of land owned and protected in perpetuity by Genesee Land Trust. Peacework Farm manages the land under a 25-year rolling lease with the land trust. This land will be available for future farmers without the burden of purchasing it. Our lease was developed with the help of Equity Trust and the EF Schumacher Foundation who provide technical assistance to people seeking alternatives to private ownership of farmland.

Peacework CSA (GVOCSA) is fantastic! There is a huge variety of vegetables - all organic. The season is 26 weeks, incredibly long for the region. There are also opportunities facilitated by Peacework to buy from other local, organic farmers those crops not grown by Peacework - such as orchard fruits, berries, wine, eggs and meats. I have been a member of Peacework for 12 years!

I have been a member of the GVOCSA for five years and I LOVE their vegetables! It is a great group of people who pull together to make the CSA happen.... [more]
