Peacework Organic CSA

Founded in 1989 as Genesee Valley Organic CSA (GVOCSA), Peacework Organic CSA is one of the oldest continually-operating CSAs in the USA. We are based in Rochester, NY and are entirely run by member volunteers.

Our main season CSA offers 26 weeks of certified organically-grown vegetables and herbs from Peacework Farm in Newark, NY. We offer Full Shares (7-10 items per week) and Partial Shares (4-6 items per week). We have 2 pick-up locations. "Rochester" members pick up at Abundance Cooperative Market, 62 Marshall St., Rochester. "Newark" members (from Wayne and Ontario counties) pick up at Peacework Farm. Members choose Thursday or Sunday as their pick-up day and keep that day for the whole season. During the main season we coordinate Special Orders of organic maple syrup, honey, wine, and fruit from other producers in New York State. Rochester members can also separately purchase eggs and meat from Heiden Valley Farm for pick up at our Rochester distribution site.

Peacework Organic CSA is one of the few CSAs where all members get to participate in the work of growing, transporting, and distributing our main season veggies and herbs. Peacework Farm hosts member work parties on Thursday and Sunday mornings where we help weed, harvest, wash, and pack our food. Rochester members transport the food for the Rochester shares to our cooler at Abundance. Thursday and Sunday evenings, a second crew of Rochester members organizes the food for member pick-up. Rochester Full shares sign up for 3 farm shifts and 2 distribution shifts for the season. (For a 3 adult/teen household, that's one trip to the farm for the season but we are welcome to go more often!). Rochester Partial shares work 2 farm shifts and 1 at distribution. Newark members work farm shifts only. They pick up their shares from the farm cooler after 2:30 PM on Thursdays or Sundays.

Partial shares have one set price of $350 for the season. Full shares are offered on a sliding scale ($775, $675, $575, or $475) based on your ability to pay. Members able to pay at the higher levels help to subsidize those who can only afford to pay at the lower levels. This assures our farmers a fair income while also making high-quality organic produce available to all. Peacework Farm also accepts Food Stamps. Members choosing this option make arrangements directly with the Peacework farmers at 315-398-4007.

Peacework Farm does its utmost to provide 4-6 items per week for Partial Shares and 7-10 items per week for Full Shares. But we share the risks of production with them. Shares can be thin early in the season and during stretches of bad weather. When conditions are good, we share the bounty.

Both Rochester and Newark members can register on line at our website peaceworkcsa.org. We have sign-up meetings in the city where Rochester members can schedule their work shifts. Newark members use the work schedule posted at the farm.
