Salamander Springs Farm Pinto Beans are grown using absolutely no pesticides, fertilizers or or tractor cultivation. The beans are hand harvested when dry in late summer and are shelled & winnowed throughout the fall and winter. Pinto beans are a wholesome and nutritious source of protein, a staple in Mexican cuisine, and a popular soup bean here in Appalachia.
Each package includes a delicious recipe which is a favorite here on the farm. Cooked beans freeze well so you can make a big pot and have quick meals later. Leftovers also make yummy re-fried beans for tacos or burritos!
Salamander Springs Farm is a small-scale unmechanized farm designed and managing using permaculture principles and practices. We use cover crops, organic compost and mulches instead of extracted petroleum-based fertilizers or pesticides. Our soil is not treated like dirt - tilled into dust to erode away - it is teaming with life and stable organic nutrients which feed our crops naturally.
Salamander Springs Farm grain & bean fields, market gardens, orchard, nut trees and pasture are developed and managed based on permaculture principles.
