Poquonnock Plains Farm is a working model of sustainable, hyper-local urban agriculture. Poquonnock Plains Farm demonstrates successful bio-intensive and biodynamic growing methods in a very small-scale permaculture landscape.

The farm is just under a quarter acre on the Connecticut Coastal Plain adjacent to Bluff Point Coastal Preserve in Groton, Connecticut. This land has a rich agricultural history. The name itself has a rich history, as Poquonnock means cleared land in Algonquian language. Poquonnock Plains original colonial purpose was to serve as pasture land for English settlers across the Thames in New London. The land had been used similarly by native residents for centuries. Between then and now it has been a dirt horse track, a freight yard, and potato fields.

A cross between a backyard garden, and mini- farm, Poquonnock Plains Farm intends to demonstrate through affordable local CSA, farm tours, classes, and hands on practice, possible solutions to problems with the current challenges of food security and conventional agriculture.

An example of a typical mid-August share (exact veggies will vary) - swiss chard or kale, basil, dill, or other herbs green beans, variety of heirloom tomatoes, squash, zucchini, onions, baby lettuce, variety of peppers, cabbage, cut flowers
