The Purple Porch Co-op aims to connect people in Michiana who want to buy local, organic and/or fair produced food with local growers who produce that food. Here is how the co-op works: Purple Porch Co-op producers post their fruit, vegetable, meat and baked good products for sale on the co-op's web site. Customers can shop online for their food, and pick up their purchases weekly at the distribution center. It is a win-win: producers have a market for their harvest, consumers can live their values of buying locally and naturally grown whole foods with the convenience of one distribution center, at LangLab (1302 High St.), South Bend. Local food is more than just a passing trend.
