Radical Roots Community Farm is catalyzing positive change by growing high quality, ecologically grown vegetables, educating about sustainable agriculture and living this example.
Radical Roots Community Farm produces high quality, ecologically grown vegetables in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We use sustainable methods of farming such as cover cropping, crop rotation, attracting beneficial insects and applying compost. Without the use of synthetic chemicals, herbicides and pesticides, we rely on hand labor and natural cycles for the healthiest soil and vegetables
We have a 100 member CSA in both Harrisonburg and Charlottesville and sell at the Harrisonburg(Saturday) and Charlottesville markets(Wednesday and Saturday). We offer farm tours, an apprenticeship program and teach permaculture design. Ecologically grown is a way of gardening that is modeled on the forest ecosystem. At Radical Roots Farm we fertilize with compost, use cover cropping and integrate animals and tree crops with our vegetable rotations. We never use pesticides or herbicides and have planted over 500 trees and shrubs to provide habitat and attract beneficial insects.
