These fleeces are from our one-year-old Shetland wethers. Our sheep are professionally sheared, and we skirt the fleeces before offering them for sale. They are ready to be washed and carded. We do not put coats on our sheep, because we would not want to wear a coat on top of a wool coat! That does mean, however, that there is some plant material in the wool. Most of it comes out with carding or combing though.
Our sheep are raised on natural pasture with fresh air and sunshine, and eat nothing but all-natural grass and hay.
The 2.25# fleece is almost all white with just a couple black spots, which could either be pulled out or incorporated into your garment for a unique touch.
The 2.5# fleece is about 50/50 black and white. I wanted to keep it myself to make a nice tweed sweater. This is the fleece pictured. The tips of the wool are bleached from the sun, but typically those tips break off in carding and you're left with true black.
The 3# fleece is solid charcoal with two very small white spots that could easily be pitched if you don't want any white in your yarn or garment. We almost pitched the white spots when we were skirting, but then we decided to leave them in there in case you wanted to do something creative!
