Red Brick Farm

We began by looking for a great place to raise our four chidren in a more relaxed - not under our noses all the time- kind of life. We found a civil war era home on 12 acres that needed extensive (and still does!!) renovations. As we went along, we discovered that our 12 acres have much to offer, from mulberries, blackberries and gooseberries to black walnuts and maple syrup. We also discovered that we really were capable of doing a lot more to support our family and feed our family than our city upbringing led us to believe. We also discovered that others were interested in what we had to offer.

We started clearing land from major overgrowth and planting fruits and veggies to keep us healthy. Then one of the kids wanted to try raising chickens. Our first two batches were egg layers. We currently have 6 breeds of layers that produce white, brown, pink, green and blue eggs. Then a 4-H hatching date mix up landed 26 meat birds on our property and we began learning to raise them too.

What we also found was that we can produce enough fruit and veggies for several families and the eggs and chicken we are raising are keeping our family healthy and happy (and well fed of course!). Now we are branching out into providing for others who are interested in what we have to offer.

We have fresh breads and baked goods weekly, eggs, chicken and whatever fruits and veggies are in season. We just discovered a pear tree and are looking forward to offering those this year too!
