Red Rope Farm in Douglassville, PA was started in 2004 by Dave & Kim Day. We began with 2 dozen laying hens and our farm has grown very much since then. We now have about 30 hens, 6 ducks, 3 turkeys, a goat and 12 sheep.
We focus on grass feeding at Red Rope Farm because it is most natural for the animals. Our sheep and steers are rotationally grazed and supplemented with some grain.
Our laying hens are a mixed flock of heritage breeds so we get all shades of brown eggs, as well as green, blue and white eggs. Eggs are available for purchase at our self-serve farm stand.
We sell our lamb either whole or half (a $15 deposit is required), or by-the-cut. Lamb is usually available in the fall and/or winter. Pre-ordering is recommended.
Our traditional-style Tunis sheep are very docile and are wonderful mothers. They have beautiful, cream-colored, lofty wool with a spinning count of 54s to 58s (fine to medium). We raise some lambs each year for meat, and we also sell lambs and adult sheep for breeding when available. In addition, we also offer raw wool, roving, yarn and tanned pelts for sale.
Each spring we plant lots of veggies in raised-bed gardens! This year we are trying some new varieties and we're excited to see how they grow. Our veggies are grown naturally, with lots of compost and no chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
Our crafts, wool and soap are available for sale at the farm and, also in our Etsy shop - www.etsy.com/shop/redropefarm/.
