Red Truck Farm is located on Sauvie Island and we are currently marketing our seasonal produce and herbs to local restaurants and grocers in the greater Portland area. Red Truck Farm seeks to strike a dynamic relationship with our customers where we can respond quickly to their needs and desires. Our harvested crop always reaches our customers hands within 24-hours of harvest, with the exception of cured or dried down crops, (garlic, onions, fresh dry beans, winter squash).

The farm has existed for three years on leased land, with an annual lease, and this year has expanded into a formerly conventionally farmed acre. Prior to, 2010, we had been cultivating a total of 1/2 acre, divided among 3 fields. Each of these fields are irrigated using drip irrigation. In contrast to that, our new 1 acre field is undergoing a dry - farming experiment.

The farm is roughly divided into 60-65% in seasonal production during Spring, Summer, and Fall, with the remaining land existing in a spring/summer cover crop. Our bed preparation, plowing, and mowing are all accomplished with the use of a two-wheeled BCS tractor. Cultivation is by hand tools or hands. All harvest is by hand.

The extent of our nutrient amendments is in the form or organic chicken manure, organic gypsum, and organic lime, in combination with an incorporated fall-winter-early spring cover crop (usually, a rye, vetch, cow pea, clover mix) which is mowed and turned in during early spring. Summer cover crop is either sudan grass or buckwheat, depending on the fate of the beds in fall (buckwheat for fall planted/over-wintering crops such as garlic and onions, sudan for fallow beds before the application of winter cover crop).

Currently Red Truck Farm is part-time endeavor as I have an off-farm job as well. The intent of this model is to strike a balance of growing those crops that are sought after by chefs and local grocers that fit into this type of farm operation. We currently are not hiring interns, apprentices, or other paid positions. If you would like to volunteer we always have a pair of gloves for you, plenty of complimentary produce, and great way to get out of the city and get your hands dirty.

Red Truck Farm is always open to hosting individual and group tours of the farm so you can get to know your farm, farmer, produce, and how it all comes into your hands. Thank you for taking the time to check us out.
