Yummy CNG Veggies and Perfect Baking Eggs
By: Marta (Jul 23, 2008)
The quality and variety of the food is fantastic. Some of the best asparagus I've ever had, GREAT greens--salad, kale/collards, chard and spinach, and yummy everything else too. I have a full share for our family of three--veggies only-- and we've had ample eating quantities of most items and some storage quantities (asparagus, squash, cukes) as well. I think my only complaint is that we haven't had more storage quantities of other things--but then, if my kitchen was overrun with storage quantities of everything we've gotten, I'd be complaining that it was too much. Other notes of interest? Especially given the price of gas, it's been wonderful to just pick up the share at our local farmer's market instead of having to drive out to the farm every week. Though doing some work hours on site seems like a nice way to get a sense of the place too. We signed up for the egg subscription and are making the most heavenly quiches and flourless chocolate cakes out of them. Hard shells, nice elastic egg whites and really rich gold yolks. Likewise, it's been nice to have herbs almost every week, which we've used both fresh and dried. One of the reasons I joined the Danjo CSA is their commitment to the CNG (Certified Naturally Grown) program. I was aware that there were some neat small-farm alternatives to the USDA organic label, but I hadn't really talked to anybody that was participating in one until I met Dan at the farmer's market last year and did some homework on it myself. Sounds like a great system. It has certainly produced great results at Danjo!
