Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is
By: Melissa del Cano (Oct 29, 2008)
The more you read, the more you know; try Omnivore's Dilemma, or Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. These books will make you want to shake the hand of your farmer. If you become a CSA member with Fox Creek Farm, you can do just that. You will know the people who grow your food; you can help them harvest it if you want. You will know that not only are your veggies delicious, they are wholesome and easy on the environment. You will be giving your money not to the people who truck your veggies from who knows where, grown who knows how; but to the actual people who work the land, grow the plants and pull in the harvest--with every care to the food they grow on their land.
This is a community; we share recipes, we have potlucks and contra dances, sometimes the farmers will share homemade cookies with their weekly deliveries. But even if you just bring your bag and fill it with this week's harvest, you are doing the right thing--for yourself, your farmer, your environment, and every recipe you cook with the ingredients from Fox Creek Farm!
This is our first year with Fox Creek Farm; I already have my deposit in for next year. I can't wait to see what the new harvest brings!
